13-21 Reading Review
1. The big plan that Katniss and Rue have come up with against the Career Tributes is to blow up the cornucopia where the Career Tributes have their food supplies and their weapons. Katniss and Rue knew that the Career Tributes have bombs every where around the cornucopia so if they blow up all the bombs the Career Tributes will have to survive on their own. The plan was for Rue and Katniss to go their separate ways. Rue would distract the Career Tributes, while Katniss blows up all the bombs by shooting down a bundle of apples.
"Somehow Rue and I must find a way to destroy their food. I'm pretty sure feeding themselves will be a tremendous struggle." (page 208)
2. Since the rules have change and two tributes from the same district can win the game, Katniss and Peeta are trying to meet up again so they can both win the Hunger Games. Once the announcement came on Katniss went to look for Peeta. She didn't she him with the Career Tributes so Katniss went walking down the stream and saw blood and continued to follow it. Katniss knew that Peeta would be disguised into the forest or his environment. The initial romance has still continued but it also has ended It was real romance because Katniss saw Peeta hurt she helped him get better by taking him to a cave. It was to real romance because Katniss kisses Peeta knowing what Haymitch wants and what the supporters want to see.

3. When Claudius Templesmith made an announcement inviting all the remaining tributes to a feast at the cornucopia. He says that their is a marked book bag for each tribute to have. Peeta didn't want Katniss to go and get the bag but Katniss knew that she needed what was every in the bag to survive and help Peeta get better. When Katniss and tries to go and get the bag she is caught by a girl from district 2, Clove. Katniss knew that she was skilled with knives. Katniss and Clove fight and Clove pins Katniss down. Clove is about to kill her, but Thresh a boy from Rue's district saves Katniss by killing Clove. However Thresh didn't kill Katniss because Katniss was a good friend to Rue. In the end Katniss is successful and retrieves the bag. Inside the bag is medicine to help Peeta get better and regain his power.
"Fortunately, the first knife comes whizzing in on my right side so I can her it and I'm able to deflect it with my bow. I turn, drawing back the bowstring and send an arrow straight at Clove's heart" (page 284)
4. With Peeta struggling to regain his strength Katniss tries her best to care for Peeta in anyway she can. She knows that she wants both of them to win the games for their district and to come back to their families. However Katniss doesn't know if she feels the same way Peeta does about her. She still has feeling about Gale. "Gale's not my boyfriend, but would he be, if I opened that door? He talked about us running away together." (page 280) Katniss also understands that the best way to get supporters is to stick together with Peeta. Katniss knows the strategy that Haymitch wants them to follow. When Katniss finds Peeta hurt, Katniss can't help but feel worried about Peeta. In the moment "Impulsively, I lean forward and kiss him, stopping his words. This is probably overdue anyway since he's right, we are supposed to be madly in love." (page 260) Katniss just made a big mistake, she is leading Peeta on that she has feelings about him. However Katniss knows that a little piece of her heart still has feeling for Gale. Katniss can't play the game correctly when she is not in the correct mind state. Now it's to late to look back she has to continue to play the games to the best of her ability.

Air Conditioner Protest Letter
Dear Principal Robin Martin and Administration,
We propose that air conditioners are needed in all classrooms on the Moanalua High School campus. With air conditioners in all classrooms, students will have better concentration while doing their school work. Studies show that concentration and cognitive abilities decline substantially after a room reaches 77 or 78 degrees according to the New York Times. With Hawaii’s temperature ranging around low 70 degrees fahrenheit and high 80 degrees fahrenheit in Honolulu according to gohawaii.com. Though some days during winter and certain rainy days air conditioners are not needed because temperatures are already in perfect learning temperature. However the rest of the school year students have to go through the school day in uncomfortable overheated classrooms. “It has been found by research that in the comfort conditions the working capacity of the human beings increases. If the room temperature is very high, not all the heat from the body is released and the person feels uncomfortable from deep within that causes irritation of mind and lack of concentration.” according to the Bright Hub Engineering. Some students on campus might have allergic reactions to dust or pollen. Also with our global warming issues our earth’s atmosphere has a lot pollution. The air conditioners have filters built into them, so they filter out the unclean air so the students in the classroom will breath in clean air. “One in five Americans spends at least part of the day in a school building. In February 1995, the U.S. Government Accounting Office released a survey indicating that more than half of U.S. schools have deficiencies that adversely affect indoor air quality. In addition to triggering asthma attacks in susceptible children, poor indoor air quality causes drowsiness, inability to concentrate, and lethargy. Whether poor air quality forces students to actually miss class because of asthma attack, or whether it simply reduces attentiveness, learning is compromised.” said the http://sdpl.coe.uga.edu/articlesandpapers/lyons.html. Our plan of action is to spread the word about our protest through flyers and social media. This protest will be in front of the our administration building because this is where the principal and top administrators have their offices. This protest will be peaceful because we want to be civil people in our community. Also we feel that we don’t need to be destructive in order to get our point across. The protest signs will have slogans and facts about air conditioners and the positives of having them. Due to cost and the budget that our school has from the Department of Education (DOE) “roughly $1.4 billion” we understand the difficulty of adding something like this in your budget. However our group would really appreciate that you understand why we are going to protest. We are standing up for the students at the Moanalua High School so we can make a change in the our learning environment.
